Peace at All Times

“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in all ways.  The Lord be with you all.” – II Thessalonians 3:16

On Sunday, October 7th you will be invited to give to the Peace & Global Witness special offering.  I would like to use this platform to tell you a bit about it.

How is my Gift Used?

A gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering enables the church to promote the Peace of Christ by

addressing systems of injustice across the world. Individual congregations are encouraged to utilize up to 25% of this Offering to connect with the global witness of Christ's peace. Mid councils retain an additional 25% for ministries of peace and reconciliation. The remaining 50% is used by the Presbyterian Mission Agency to advocate for peace and justice in cultures of violence, including our own, through collaborative projects of education and Christian witness.[1]

This year the Mission Committee has decided to use 25% of this offering to support Project Harmony.  The mission of Project Harmony is to protect and support children, collaborate with professionals and engage the community to end child abuse and neglect.[2]  I have toured and witnessed the work of this organization, and the synergy between law enforcement, social services, medical and referral professionals is amazing to witness.

Why work for peace?

Peace is at the core of the Christian faith, but in order for peace to exist it must be practiced and exercised.  This is true for peace within our hearts, minds, and souls as it is for peace amongst friends, neighbors, and enemies.  Jesus has especially blessed the peacemakers, those who are creators of peace.  You can be thankful you are members of a denomination that has a very high value of peace worldwide.  This offering is just one way to help make peace in our community and world.
